The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides theoretical training to 3rd-year dental students, and both theoretical and practical training to 4th- and 5th-year students. Under the supervision of our faculty members and resident dentists, dental students perform tooth extractions and simple dentoalveolar surgical procedures for patients who apply to our department.
In addition to undergraduate dental education, our department also offers postgraduate specialty training. Resident dentists receive both theoretical and practical education in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and perform surgical treatments for patients under the supervision of our faculty members.
In addition to education and clinical services, dental students and resident dentists actively participate in scientific research activities under the guidance of our faculty members, contributing to national and international scientific publications.
In our department, surgical procedures performed under local anesthesia take place in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry, while operations requiring general anesthesia are carried out in the operating rooms of the Faculty of Medicine’s Balcalı Hospital. The treatment services offered by our department include tooth extractions, surgical removal of impacted teeth, dentoalveolar and pre-prosthetic surgery, dental implant surgery, bone and soft tissue grafting procedures for reconstructive purposes, diagnosis and surgical treatment of oral and maxillofacial pathologies (such as cysts and tumors), surgical correction of jaw and facial deformities (orthognathic surgery), surgical repair of cleft alveolus and palate, diagnosis and surgical management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and surgical treatment of jaw fractures.
